Meet the Artist

CAROLINE G GIBSON, Soprano, is an active performer, and has earned a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree (D.M.A.) (dissertation:  "An Investigation into Benjamin Britten's Church Parable:  The Burning Fiery Furnace"), from the University of Iowa School of Music, Iowa City, Iowa; the Master of Music (M.M.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Degrees from the Catholic University of America Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Washington, D.C., and The University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, respectively. Dr. Gibson is also an alumnus of AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) in Graz, Austria, and SSMA (Sessione Senese per la Musica e l'Arte Vocal Program) in Siena, Italy.  She is the recipient of Individual Artists Grants from the D.C. Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.  The Soprano has also enjoyed the distinct privilege of studying and living with acclaimed Swiss-born Baritone Francois Loup (discovered by Menotti at the Spoleto Festival) and his wife while completing an intensive vocal studies program. 

The Sunday News Journal, Wilmington, Delaware said of the Soprano's voice, "... a voice to be reckoned with ..." while the Post and Courier, Charleston, South Carolina said, "... her 'Summertime' was sweet and warm as molasses." Dr. Gibson's most memorable performances have been two Verdi masterpieces, Abigaille in NABUCCO with Constanta Opera in Romania and Soprano Soloist in Verdi's REQUIEM.

Dr. Gibson has done solo concert tours in Mexico and the US Virgin Islands; has been featured on "Artists Spotlights" on classical music stations, WGMS, Washington, D.C. and KUSI, Iowa City, Iowa; featured on Maryland Public Television (MPT) and PBS and Toscana Canale 3, Siena, Italy; sung throughout Europe; debut recital at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C.; and has performed in other venues as the intimate Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, New York, New York; The Tower in St. Paul's Grenada; Steinway & Sons Recital Hall and Strathmore Music Center, Rockville, Maryland; Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, College Park, Maryland; George Washington National Masonic Memorial and the Lyceum, Alexandria, Virginia; Mary McLeod Bethune Museum and Warner Theater, Washington, D.C., to name a few. The Soprano has toured with the Harlem Festival Theater in Frankfurt and Baden-Baden, Germany, and Living Arts in the U.S. Midwestern states and Hong Kong.  

Dr. Gibson is a former Vocal Artist In Residence, Assistant Professor of Music,  and Director of the Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop and Small Vocal Ensembles at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky.   The Soprano also served as the Executive Director for TheSingersProject/DCFMC, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and on the board of directors for both DCFMC (District of Columbia Federation of Music Clubs) and NFMC (National Federation of Music Clubs).  Dr. Gibson currently serves as the Director of Choral/Theatre Arts at Northampton Middle/High School on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. 

The Soprano is a member of SAI (Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity), Pi Kappa Lambda (National Music Honors Society) and NAfME (National Association for Music Education).  Dr. Gibson has recorded a CD of Negro Spirituals and companion DVD, "On Ma Journey Now" and "The Making of On Ma Journey Now."  Two of the selections from the CD, Honor, Honor and Steal Away have been featured on Broadjam’s top 10 list in the category of Religious-Folk Music.
